Addressing Basic Human Needs

Partnering with faith-based and community nonprofits to tackle urgent regional challenges:

  • Food Insecurity
Programs that provide food and related support to underserved individuals and families
  • Homelessness
Programs that prevent homelessness, provide emergency shelter or temporary housing, and connect individuals with supportive services.
  • Poverty
Programs that help break the cycle of poverty through resources, referrals and services that strengthen families and neighborhoods.

Our team is here to help! We highly encourage you to contact Foundation staff to discuss your project idea before submitting. A competitive application always includes:

  • Clearly describe the proposed program or project and the need it addresses.
  • Explain the anticipated impact, including the people, ministry or community that will benefit.
  • Include a detailed project or program budget supported by relevant bids, invoices, estimates or other documentation.
  • Provide financial statements and an organizational operating budget.
  • Demonstrate the organization’s commitment to completing and sustaining the work through fundraising, contributions, volunteers or other resources.
  • Include a realistic timeline for completing the project or using the requested funds.
  • Explain whether a partial award would still allow the organization to move forward.
  • The Foundation has not historically funded 100% of project costs. Applicants should identify other anticipated or confirmed sources of support whenever possible.

All applications must be completed and submitted through the Foundation’s online grant management system.

Applications are completed and submitted through the Foundation’s online grant management system. Applicants will create an account and use the portal to submit the application, upload supporting documents and manage grant-related communications.

All submitted application materials become the property of the Episcopal Foundation of Dallas. The Foundation may request additional information or conduct a site visit as part of its review.

Foundation staff reviews applications for completeness and eligibility. Qualifying applications are then considered by the Grants Committee, which makes funding recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees reviews and approves grant recommendations in June. Applicants are notified of funding decisions by July 1.

The Foundation may approve a multi-year grant, award a single year of funding from a multi-year request, or ask an organization to reapply in a future cycle.

The Foundation generally does not fund:

  • Annual fund campaigns
  • Endowments
  • Capital campaigns
  • Deficit financing
  • Debt repayment
  • Fundraising event underwriting
  • Exceptions may be considered when a request clearly advances the Foundation’s mission and grantmaking priorities.

Grant funds will not be distributed until the recipient completes the following steps.

  • Signs and submits the Grant Agreement.
  • Confirms the approved purpose and terms of the award.
  • Is prepared to use the funds within the specified grant period, typically 12 months.
  • Provides the banking information required for ACH payment.

Grant recipients must submit a written Grant Report explaining how funds were spent and describing the results of the funded program or project.

Reports are due by March 31 of the following year or when the organization submits another grant application, whichever occurs first.

Reports must be submitted through the Foundation’s online grant management system using the grantee’s login credentials. Failure to submit a required report may affect eligibility for future funding.

Grant recipients may publicly announce an award at any time. Publicity and recognition materials should acknowledge support from the Episcopal Foundation of Dallas, and copies should be shared with the Foundation’s Executive Director.
