The Episcopal Foundation of Dallas is pleased to support the Community Garden Kitchen of Collin County.

In late 2019, we told you about our support of and the groundbreaking at The Community Garden Kitchen (CGK) of Collin County. It’s been a labor of love, but with its Angela’s Table Meals Program, CGK opened its doors in June 2022. It is the only place in Collin County where the food insecure can receive a warm, nutritious meal, five evenings a week – no questions asked, no paperwork required.

The facility is now constructed on leased land from the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and is completely paid for. During the first two weeks of service, over 750 people were fed. During the day the kitchen will feed students and their teachers from Holy Family School and will be open to the public Monday-Friday, 6-8pm.

While Collin County is one of the wealthiest and fastest growing counties in Texas, its prosperity does not insulate residents from experiencing food insecurity. Nearly 15% or 169,000 people of the over one million residents are considered food insecure.

When guests arrive, a volunteer will seat them restaurant-style at small tables and take their orders for a meal from a very simple menu prepared by a paid, on-site executive chef. The same volunteer will bring the guests their food and drinks. Menus will include produce harvested from the quarter acre of gardens on the premises where a combination of raised and ground beds will support the kitchen through seasonal rotation of vegetable crops and berries.

Angela’s table will have a social worker on hand and throughout the evening to assist anyone with problems. To further extend additional benefits, and “additional services” table will be staffed by other non-profits. Each evening a representative of a different non-profit will distribute information regarding its unique services and available benefits in a professional, unobtrusive manner. Diners will decide if they would like to avail themselves of these services.

Community Garden Kitchen has created many connections with food sources to ensure they have the ability to get nutritious food as economically as possible.
