Board Bios

The Episcopal Foundation of Dallas (the "Foundation") was established by the Diocesan Convention of 1950 at the request of Bishop C. Avery Mason, with a vision to bring together "the best business brains in the Diocese" to invest and administer the trust funds of the Diocese and its parishes and missions. That tradition continues today, with approximately $30 million in assets under management, under the oversight of a fourteen member Board of Trustees comprised of men and women active in the church and prominent in their respective fields. The Bishop is an ex officio member of the Board.  The Board of Trustees of Episcopal Foundation of Dallas is composed of the following accomplished and distinguished individuals:

Robert V. "Buddie" Barnes, Jr. is a member of the Grants Committee and a member of Christ Church, Plano. A Texas A&M University - Commerce graduate and distinguished alumnus with a BS in Industrial Technology with majors in Architecture and Management, Mr. Barnes serves as Chairman of the Board and C.E.O. of Dee Brown, Inc. His civic activities include Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Chairman of the Board of Texas A&M University – Commerce Foundation, Vice President of Texas A&M University – Commerce Distinguished Alumni Association, board member of Baylor Health Care System Foundation, board member of Visiting Nurse Association, Executive board member of Circle Ten Council Boy Scouts of America and board member of East Dallas Young Life

Robin M. Caldwell recently retired from JCPenney, where she had been employed since 1974, most recently as Director of Community Relations and President of the JCPenney Company Fund overseeing the company’s charitable contributions, community relations programs and JCPenney Afterschool. She has served in various capacities; including lector, Budget Committee member, and Sunday school teacher at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas. She served on the Allocations Panel of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas , including five years as Panel Chair, and also on the Stewardship Committee. She is currently on the Board of Directors of the Episcopal Church Foundation, serving as Chair of the Governance Committee, and on the Board of Trustees for the Parish Episcopal School, serving as Chair of the Facilities Committee. She has served on the board of the Association of Women Executives as Vice President of Special Projects. She has a B.A. in Art History from the College of William and Mary and an M.B.A. in Finance from Fordham University.

W. Plack Carr, Jr., is Executive Vice-President of Southwestern Medical Foundation. He has served on committees and boards for numerous organizations, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, and Gaston Episcopal Hospital Foundation. He was a founding member of the Board and past Chair of the Episcopal School of Dallas, and has worked with St. Michael's School, Hockaday School and St. Philip's School. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Shelter Ministries of Dallas. He is a parishioner and former vestry member at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.

Harriet Hahn Cousins served two years as Senior Warden at St. Michael & All Angels in Dallas, as well as Treasurer of the Women of St. Michael. Ms. Cousins was Treasurer and board member of St. Michael School and a Trustee of Episcopal School of Dallas. She has served as Treasurer and Administrative Vice-President of the Junior League of Dallas, and as a Trustee of the Junior League Endowment Fund. She served on the 2002 United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Allocation Committee. Professionally, she directs the undergraduate business and internship programs at the University of Dallas. A graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, she is the mother of three boys.

G. Thomas Graves III has over thirty years of management experience in oil and gas exploration and production, currently as Managing Partner of Katy Resources LLC and recently as President and Chief Executive Officer of Toreador Resources Corporation, a NASDAQ-listed oil and gas exploration and development company operating in the United States, France, Turkey, Romania, Hungary and Trinidad. He currently serves is the Treasurer of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Corporation of the Diocese and the Standing Committee; and is an Alternate Deputy to the General Convention. Mr. Graves is a member of the Church of the Incarnation, where he recently chaired the Rector Search Committee and is a former Senior Warden. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Uganda Christian University Partners and Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary. Mr. Graves is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received a BA and an MBA.

Howell D. Harralson, an SMU business school graduate, is a financial advisor with UBS Financial Services, Inc. A member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Mr. Harralson’s civic activities have included the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the City of University Park Finance Committee and Employee Benefits Committee, the SMU Alumni Association Board, YMCA committees, and a term as Salesmanship Club Foundation Chairman.

John M. Hind is Sr. Vice President and Portfolio Manager for the Dallas Region with Frost Bank and has 40 years of experience in the investment business. He is a long-standing member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Dallas–Fort Worth. He served as the Treasurer for the Diocese of Dallas from 2004 to 2009. Since moving to Dallas in 1981, he’s been an active member of St. James Episcopal Church, serving as a former Senior Warden, Chalice Bearer and as a member of the Finance Committee. He has served as the past president of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and as a Sunday school teacher and confirmation teacher. John has also served as Lay Director for the Cursillo Movement for the Diocese of Dallas and Fort Worth, on Happenings and New Beginnings Teams, as well as on the Board of the Episcopal Renewal Center. John is a graduate of the University of Texas.

Robert A. Hulsey is President and Chief Executive Officer of the American National Bank of Texas in Terrell, Texas. He has served as Chairman of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas and as a director of IBAT and Texas Bankers Association. He has also served as Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas and the Southwest Automated Clearinghouse Association. Robert currently serves as a Trustee for the Corporation of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and has previously been a member of the Executive Council of the Diocese. Among numerous boards and committees, Robert has been Chairman of the Terrell Chamber of Commerce, the Terrell Park Board, and Terrell United Way.

Eugenia H. King joined the Foundation Board of Trustees in 2012.  She is an active member of St. Michael and All Angels and has served her church and the diocese in various leadership positions including the St. Michael and All Angels' Vestry and the Diocesan Commission on Ministry.  She has also served on the Hockaday School Alumnae Board, the Lamplighter School Alumnae Board, the Episcopal School of Dallas Parent Association and is a Meals on Wheels and Perot Museum of Nature and Science volunteer. She is a graduate of the University of San Diego and worked for Onmi Financial in San Diego and Sothebys in New York before settling in Dallas. 

Langford Keith, III is Vice President - Wealth Management for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and received his MBA from Thunderbird – the Garvin School of International Management. Ford began his career in banking and wealth management at Republic Bank – Dallas, now Bank of America. He is a member of the Cathedral Church of St. Matthew, where he has served as Treasurer. He is a board member of St. John’s Episcopal School, the Pre-GED School at the Cathedral, an advisory board member of the Wilkinson Center, and past president of the East Dallas Cooperative Parish.

William B. Madden has over 45 years experience in general securities and investment advisory business. He is president of Madden Securities Corporation. His firm is a member firm of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and a Registered Investment Advisor with the Securities and Exchange Commission. He has served the community in many capacities including: Highland Park Town Council Member and Mayor Pro-Tem, Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation Board of Directors member; Chairman of the Texas Water Development Board, and Chairman of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas Foundation Board. He is parishioner and former vestry member at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, and former member of the Holy Family School Board in McKinney. He is a Life Member of the Salesmanship Club and a SMU graduate.

Harry M. Roberts, Jr. is a real estate and real estate finance attorney with Thompson & Knight LLP.  During his long and distinguised career, he has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer by Thompson Reuters, Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine, Best Lawyers in America by Woodward/White, and Who's Who Legal: Texas, and selected for Chambers USA.  His community activities include: Board of Management Park Cities - North Dallas, YMCA, Board of Directors Dallas Legal Services Project, Board of Directors Shelter Ministries, University of Texas College of Liberal Arts Foundation Advisory Council, and Salesmandhsip Club of Dallas.  He is an active member of Church of the Incarnation and has served two terms on the Vestry.  He earned his undergraduate degree at SMU and graduated from Harvard Law School.

Stephen P. Smiley joined the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Investment Committee in 2011. Mr. Smiley is the Managing Partner of Madison Lane Partners, LLC, a private advisory and investment firm. From 1996 through 2010, Steve was President of Hunt Private Equity Group, Inc., the private investment activity associated with the Ray L. Hunt family of Dallas, TX, which included managing The Lafayette Investment Fund, LP, a private equity fund sponsored by Hunt, as well as other public and private investments on behalf of the Hunt family. Prior to joining Hunt, Steve was President of Cypress Capital Corporation, a private equity firm he co-founded in 1991. Steve started his career working for Citicorp for 15 years n New York and Dallas in various corporate lending and private equity capacities. Steve has been a member of Church of the Incarnation for nearly 30 years, where he has served as Acolyte and Chalice Bearer, and also as a member of the Incarnation Foundation Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Investment Committee.

The Rt. Rev. James M. Stanton serves on the Foundation’s Board as an Ex-Officio member as the sixth Bishop of Dallas (879 in the American Succession). He was Ordained and Consecrated as our new Bishop on March 6, 1993, by the Most Rev. Edmond L. Browning. He graduated from Chapman University, pursued ordination in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and attended Lexington Theological Seminary (Disciples of Christ) in Lexington, Kentucky and California School of Theology at Claremont, California, where he graduated with a D. Min degree in 1975. Bishop Stanton was confirmed in 1975, and spent a year in further study at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific at Berkeley, California. He was ordained to the diaconate by the Rt. Rev. Robert C. Rusack, Bishop of Los Angeles in June 1977, and he was ordained to the priesthood by the Rt. Rev. Victor M, Rivera, Bishop of San Joachin in October 1977. Bishop Stanton has served as curate at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Canoga Park, in the Diocese of Los Angeles, (1976-1977), as vicar of St. Stephen’s Mission in Stockton, California, in the Diocese of San Joaquin (1977-1981), as Rector of St. Luke’s Church, Cedar Falls, in the Diocese of Iowa (1982-1987). He returned to the Diocese of Los Angeles in 1987 and served as the Rector of St. Mark’s Church, Glendale, California until his election as Bishop of Dallas at the end of 1992. He served two three-year terms on the National Cursillo Committee during which time he authored the Spiritual Advisors’ Workbook and many of the booklets included in the NECC Library. He has a deep interest in the ministry of the laity, church growth and evangelism, writing and developing materials for parish use. He also served as a Chaplain in the U. S. Army Reserve. Bishop Stanton is married to Diane Hanson of Glendale, California, and they have a daughter, Jennifer Hargrave and son Justin. They also have three grandsons and one granddaughter.

The Reverend Stephen B. Swann is the founding Rector and Headmaster of the Episcopal School of Dallas. He has been a member of the school’s Board of Directors since its inception in 1974 and will serve throughout his lifetime. A native of Texas, Father Swann received a Master of Divinity degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California. He attended the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Father Swann holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from North Eastern State University in Oklahoma. Before becoming the founding Rector and Headmaster of the Episcopal School of Dallas, Father Swann served as chaplain at the St. Michael School and Director of Christian Education Ministries at St. Michael and All Angels Church. Father Swann currently serves on the Endowment Committee of the Episcopal Foundation of Dallas, the Endowment Committee of the Episcopal School of Dallas and is a member of the Order of St. John. He serves on the SMU Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series Board of Directors, and appointed by Mayor Tom Leppert, Father Swann also serves on a special Dallas committee for education. He has been the Chairman of the Diocesan Ministries Commission, and has served The Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Dallas, Advisory Council of St. Philip’s School and Community Center, Board of Governors of the National Association of Episcopal Schools, and the Board of St. Francis Academy in Salina, Kansas. He and his wife, Carolyn Campbell Swann, served as the 2007 chairmen for the annual campaign “Caring for Generations” on behalf of the Baylor Health Care Systems Foundation. Father Swann is the recipient of the 2001 National Jewish Humanitarian Award, the 2000-2001 Oak Cliff Lions Club Humanitarian Award, the 2005 Hope for Humanity Award benefiting the Dallas Holocaust Museum, and in 2007 he received the Dallas Historical Society’s Award for Excellence for education and administration. Father and Mrs. Swann have four children and 11 grandchildren.

Dan E. Wilson,  is a former Managing Director of UBS Financial Services’ Municipal Securities Group.  He is an active member of St. Luke's Church in Dallas where he has served two terms as Senior Warden. He has been active in diocesan leadership, including past service on the Diocesan Executive Council and as chairman of the diocesan nominating committee, and assistant secretary of the diocesan convention. He currently serves on the Diocesan Stewardship Committee.  Other church and community involvement include serving as trustee of The University of the South at Sewanee, former trustee of The Canterbury Episcopal School in DeSoto, and current trustee of Charis Hills, a summer camp program for children with severe learning disabilities. Following his 29-year career as an investment banking professional Dan founded Beyond Imagination, a business and executive coaching practice, helping businesses and business leaders attain higher levels of achievement. He holds a BBA in finance from The University of Texas at Austin and has completed a graduate certificate program in executive and professional coaching through the Graduate School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas.
