Grants

Overview

In addition to providing investment services, the Episcopal Foundation of Dallas offers direct financial support to the Diocesan community through an annual grant program. Grants are funded from the Foundation's unrestricted fund, the Episcopal Fund. Since its establishment in 1988, the Episcopal Fund has grown from $1.5 to $3 million and distributed over $1.8 million in grants benefiting over sixty parishes, schools, and other non-for-profit agencies throughout the Dallas Diocese.

Any Episcopal church, school, agency or other not-for-profit organization located within the Diocese of Dallas may apply for a grant from the Foundation. The Foundation funds a wide variety of grant requests including: program operating expenses, building campaigns, capital improvements, and equipment needs.

Grants are awarded once a year. Applications are accepted beginning in January.  Everything you need to apply is available on this website, including the application.  The application deadline is April 15.  If April 15 falls on a weekend, the deadline is the next business day.

Guidelines

If you are considering applying for a Foundation grant, please carefully review the following items for guidance:

  • Grant Policies  outlines the eligibility requirements and application process including the deadline for applying.
  • FAQ and Successful Grant Tips answers common questions and offers tips for preparing a successful application.
  • Grants Given lists the dollar amount and purpose of individual grants awarded over the past several years, offering insights into the types of projects the Foundation has historically supported and the level of funding typically available.

In addition to reviewing these items for guidance, you are also welcome to contact the Foundation to discuss the feasibility and appropriateness of requests and for assistance in completing the application.

Application Process

There are two parts to the application.

Part I is an online form that gathers basic information about your organization and grant request.

Part II involves gathering supporting documents including a more detailed narrative of the grant request along with financial and other information about your organization.  Part II information may be mailed or faxed but we prefer that you email a scanned pdf version of the requested materials to JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING if at all possible.  The mailing address is 5950 Cedar Springs Road Suite 125, Dallas TX 75235.  The fax number is 214.352.8361.  We discourage hand delivering the application.  Items mailed  and postmarked by April 15 are considered on time, so there is no need to spend extra postage on rush deliveries.

The Executive Director will acknowledge receipt of the application, perform a preliminary review, and request additional information or conduct a site visit when appropriate.

Application proposals are then forwarded to the Grant Committee for consideration. The Grant Committee reviews grant applications, balancing needs across the Diocese against available funds in making grant recommendations to the Foundation's Board of Trustees, which makes the final decision on awards.
